DM Sotack
A lifetime member of the Lenape Boston Terrier Club, D Sotack’s lifelong love of Boston terriers and all animals began as a child. After saving her money from a paper route, D purchased her first dog when she was in eighth grade. As an ardent fan of the TV show Lassie, she of course got a collie! D’s parents owned a bakery and her mother went door to door selling baked goods. One day her mother mentioned that there was a cute dog at the local pet store. D went straight to the store and with her paper route savings purchased the dog for her mother. That dog was a Boston terrier and thus began her love of the breed.
D started her dog breeding career with her collies and branched off to schnauzers and dobies. She states that she read every book by Albert Payson Terhune, the noted novelist and collie breeder. She continued to breed and show Boston terriers and French bulldogs while raising a family and being a dog warden. After she married, D also had horses on her farm. She was the first barrel racing champion in her late twenties. Her most recent horses have included ‘Horse,’ ‘Coco,’ ‘Boots’ and a horse with no name.
D has had many AKC champions over the years and continues to love her dog family. She won the French Bulldog National in the late 80s with a 10-month-old cream named ‘Apple.’ Some of her dogs are with her friend Diane in Florida. Skal is an AKC champion and also holds the titles of BN, RA, DCAT, CGCA and TKN. Sante’ is a BN, RE, NA, NAS, CGCA and TRN. Cutty has an RN, DCAT and CDG, CH Keeper a CGC and Cheers a BN, RA and CGC.
D, you’re the best! Now it is time to get to work on writing your memoirs in a book. When you next see D, be sure to ask her about delivering a fawn on the side of the road or when her husband, Johnny, went riding with her. There are many more tales to be told and we can’t wait to see it in print!
